Winter Solstice Festival - the Chinese Thanksgiving celebration where families get together and make glutinous rice balls and offer them in sweet sugar water to Gods for prayers, giving thanks for the bountiful harvest all year round. But we do no harvesting, me and my family are just thankful to be able to spend time together at the year end =)
Actually, when I returned home, the actual day for prayers was already over, but we just make the sweet glutinous rice for fun.... and for my consumption. The saying goes that making the round rice balls is a symbol of the family being united together, so yeah. Frankly, I just want to eat the sweet dessert.
True to the spirit of getting together, we spent the weekend trawling the island for good food. I especially loved hanging out at cafés like Dome, and digging into Dome's sinfully delicious Chocolate Brownie. This baby is one hell of a brownie. Nothing comes close to this choco-dripping-raisin-filled brownie. Served with a cup of hot chocolate, voilá! Afternoon tea alá París.
