NANA ep.04 - すごい!

I just watched NANA episode 4. Two thumbs!

I think NANA the anime is progressing pretty well! The animation is pretty impressive, the storyline is translated quite artistically from the manga and needless to say, the soundtrack is most outstanding. The rather adult drawings were tastefully animated and it gives the episode a very artful front. Oh, and I must mention, the choice of seiyuus were superb! All the important characters: Nana Oosaki, Nana Komatsu, Ren, Nobu, Yasu... had very fitting seiyuus and they did an excellent job bringing the essence of their characters to life. I'm definitely following this series thru!

Your bitterness, we will dispel.

~ Jigoku Tsuushin ~

Today, I feel just like Enma Ai in the pic. In a very dark mood... but of course, I have no thoughts of sending anyone to hell. It's just that this dark portrayal of the Jigoku Shoujo appeals to me at this time... must be the exam stress. The accumulating stress is doing a number of things to my head...

But anyway, Jigoku Shoujo is one very interesting anime. I like the dark themes presented in the series. The Opening and Ending themes are also very beautiful: 逆さまの蝶 by SNoW & かりぬい by Noto Mamiko respectively. A very thought-provoking story of Enma Ai, the Hell Girl, who makes a restitution with mortals who wish to send their antagonists to hell. In the anime, individuals seeking revenge contact her via Jigoku Tsuushin (地獄通信) - a webpage activated only at 12 midnight. By typing the name of their enemy in the webpage, they summon her, the Jigoku Shoujo. In return of her ferrying their vengeance to hell, their souls will fall into hell and wander in eternal pain and suffering. Yea.. horror stuff... it's quite nice. The official webpage : 地獄通信 has some pretty cool images and layout. And oh, the creator of this page is so cool.. he/she actually replicated exactly the Jigoku Tsuushin page. Dare you put in the name of the person you hate so much you want to send him to hell?

At midpoint - and thoroughly wrecked

13.04.06 LJ81 Japanese Language Level2
20.04.06 BS306 Developmental Biology
24.04.06 BS307 Computational Biology & Modeling
27.04.06 BS308 Cancer Biology
02.05.06 BS309 Human Genetics
04.05.06 BS310 Experimental Techniques in Molecular Biology

I think I might fail today's paper. Computational biology really wrecked me good. To answer 15 bloody questions within 2.5 hrs is madness. I didn't even have time to think. Crap, I couldn't even think straight. In the first part, we had to answer 10 questions out of 11, and I was like, shit, don't know how to do this... skip! arrghh, don't know how to do this either... skip! wat the... how to do this?!?... and in the end, I realized I had to attempt the questions that I don't even have an inkling of how to solve. And to make matters worse, there's not enough time to think about how to solve the calculations, and I spent more time panicking than thinking calmly. 45 mins before the time was up, I was truly at the end of my wits with 30 marks still unanswered and all I was thinking was "oh no... I can't answer all these questions!! どうしお?どうしお? しっかりして!!あきらめないで!! もっとがんばる!! You have to finish this so MOVE IT!!!"

When I handed up the answer sheet, I felt as if I was giving my life away. This is truly one hell of a semester.

g.o.n.e.

What is does it feels like to lose a precious item for the second time? Devastating. Yes, I'm feeling very very devastated right now.

When I was preparing to go for exam this noon, I looked into the mirror and to my greatest horror, my necklace was GONE! The platinum chain with 5-sapphire-petal pendant was not around my neck! Disbelieved, I searched the entire room for the delicate necklace. It was nowhere to be found. NOWHERE! "It can't be anywhere but the room, I barely stepped out here often these days", I thought as I continued to raid the bed, closet, every nook and crany of my already tiny room. But I couldn't find it. I searched the toilets, pantry, corridors of the hostel.... in futile.

The timing can't be much worse. It's like 1 hour away from my exam and I get this emotional tsunami at this time. My focus just disintegrate and I could not even think straight, let alot concentrate for the upcoming paper.
Must be crazy this girl, you might think. But this necklace is of great sentimental value. It's a birthday present from my parents and is my ultimate favourite because the pendant resembles a unique blue Sakura. Of course no Sakura is blue, but my favourite color is blue anyway and I like Sakura alot. I had always preferred to don this necklace above all that I have and it means more since it's a gift from Mom and Dad. And now it's lost!! I was so upset to the point of tears. And this horrible feeling is still plaguing me even after the paper. I can't even focus my concentration to study for the next paper.

This is as good as rubbing salt to wound. Two years ago, my Mom got me an invaluable necklace during our trip to Chengde in China. It was a money-can't-buy pendant of the Mercy of Goddess obtained from this temple located in the mountain. And I liked it a lot, so I wore it on the same chain as a jade pendant my Dad bought for me. And I lost it in campus after like 4 months wearing it. That time too, I was so devastated that I retraced all the steps I've taken, revisited all the places in campus I went just to find it. Unfortunately, it never make it back to my possession. It took me some time to get over it. And now this..... It seems like I have a knack of losing precious stones and jewellery I hold dear. What I find most devastating is that I don't realise when the chain slipped off my neck. Since I don't know when I lose it, I have absolutely no idea where to even start looking for it. I'm so annoyed with my insensitivity, it's so upsetting.

It's so upsetting that I have no thoughts about today's paper.

The semester examinations are here.
13.04.06 - LJ81 Japanese Level2
20.04.06 - BS306 Developmental Biology
24.04.06 - BS307 Computational Biology & Structural Modeling
27.04.06 - BS308 Cancer Biology
02.05.06 - BS309 Human Genetics
04.05.06 - BS310 Experimental Techniques in Molecular Biology

One paper down. Five more to go.

What do you buy after you learnt how to play tennis?

もちろん, in the second blank you put ラケット、でしょう?
But I spent like some 10 mins racking my brains what katakana word to place in the first blank. There's barely a hundred katakana words that we learnt in this semester.
ha.n.ka.chi? (but why would you need a hankerchief for tennis?)
bi.de.o? (.....)
arrghh...
In the end, for the sake of filling in the blank, I place the only katakana I deemed most logical: ペット (pet). Yes, call me crazy, but it does make sense if you say: "After learning tennis, I go to buy racket with my pet." -_-

Oh, the composition was even more eventful. I had sort of mentally prepared for much more mundane topics like 休みに何をしたいですか (what would you like to do during the holidays) or first grade faves like あなたのしゅみはなんですか (what is your hobby).

When I saw the title:
あなたは将来どんな人と結婚したいですか。
そしてどんなうちにすみたいですか。

*faint*
How much can you write about the person you want to marry with such limited vocabulary????? I was stunned, but at the same time amused. Ironically, my coursemates and I were discussing this topic when we were waiting for our turn during the Japanese oral test.

-flasback starts-

me : RM, what did sensei ask you?
RM : What kind of person you want to marry in the future?
XN & me : ??????
me : Then, how did you reply?
XN & me : uwaaaa.... HOSHII???
KB & KC : (snickers)
me : But 'hoshii' sounds kinda strong.... KB, how do we say 'want to marry'?
KB : kekkon shitai.
me : sou ka na.... Geez I didn't think this would be asked. Don't think will come out for exam gua.....
XN : Neither do I.... kekkonshitai? tsk tsk.

-flashback ends-

As Nana Komatsu would say, "This is the doing of the demon king" .

You see, I like to eat tofu. I simply love the smooth, silken sensation of the soya product. When it comes to tau fu fa, I can eat like 2 bowls in a sitting. So, (having deprived of delicious tofu for some time now) I succumbed to the impulse of buying this silken tofu to add to my meal when I did my grocery shopping last weekend. And there I was happily planning my lunch just now, chinese cabbage soup with silken tofu and crabstick meat. Yum. So when I reached into the fridge for my silken tofu, I was shocked to see the previously smooth whitish tube now a chunk of brown ice. O.O I was positive the expiry is still a long time from now... so why is the tofu so horrible looking??

Of course it became a chunk of ice... cause I kept it in the freezer. Baka, desu ne? But I so desperately wanted to have some tofu in my meal, so I tried to salvage the icy tube by running it under tap water for like some 10 minutes. I even soaked it in tepid water to thaw it. Eventually, the tofu seemed edible, but the smooth texture was lost, it was as wrinkled as a rat's ileum. Sigh.. I still miss the smooth taste of tofu.

I'm so addicted to this song by Younha (ユンナ). Super nice song. Totally recommended. Taken from Bleach 3rd Ending theme single "Houki Boshi". Cherryblossom Garden has a good discography of Younha. Do check it out... totally recommended. This girl's got a great voice.

Nana

Exam stresssss...... there's just so much to read!!!

But what could cure stress better than a good dose of anime? :P

I just watched the first episode of 'NANA' the anime, and I must say, I like it!! The seiyuus are just nice and the ending theme, "A Little Pain", by OLIVIA is just superb. I watched NANA the movie prior to this, and I liked that too. This is one anime really worth following. The soundtrack is especially good!!

I was checking my email just now, and was so pleasantly surprised to received photos from my Japanese tutor. We took a class photo halfway during the Japanese oral test last week and she had promised to sent us. She's a really fun and wonderful sensei and I enjoyed every minute of her class. Hopefully I'll get to join her class again next semester!

ok. back to mugging. bleh

Got myself a blog

Yosh... got my personalized corner at blogger. So, why called 'Miharu's musings'? There's this webpage I stumbled upon that generated me my very own Japanese name (gasp!) - Ishimaru Miharu. yea.. but then I found out that at least 1000 ppl out there share the name Ishimaru Miharu -_- The algorithm was not encoded for diversity I guess. But anyway, I like the sound of Miharu, the meaning of it is even cooler - clear blue sky. Suits my personality well. So, I adopted this pretty name. Musings? It just goes well with Miharu :P

Anyway, just looking for a virtual place to scribble my musings.
